Bulgarian National Ethnographic Museum – Meeting the Challenges of Digitisation
The conservation, spread, comprehension and recreation of traditional culture heritages is one of the
main purpose of the National Ethnographic Museum in Bulgaria. As other cultural and scientific heritage
institutions, it begins to use new information technologies and strategies for providing access to its cultural
heritage treasures. This paper aims to present digital libraries with multimedia content as a modern technological
solution for innovative presentation of Bulgarian ethnographical heritage. It includes some basic concepts of
digital libraries with multimedia content and a description of three types of architecture. The paper also describes
the ideas, conceptual decisions and strategies in the project Experimental Digital Library “Bulgarian Ethnographic
Treasury”
Use of Knowledge Technologies for Presentation of Bulgarian Folklore Heritage Semantics
Preserving and presenting the Bulgarian folklore heritage is a long-term commitment of scholars and
researchers working in many areas. This article presents ontological model of the Bulgarian folklore knowledge,
exploring knowledge technologies for presenting the semantics of the phenomena of our traditional culture. This
model is a step to the development of the digital library for the “Bulgarian Folklore Heritage” virtual exposition
which is a part of the “Knowledge Technologies for Creation of Digital Presentation and Significant Repositories
of Folklore Heritage” project
Modelling the Functionality of the Multimedia Digital Library for Fashion Objects

Towards Wider Sharing of Iconographical Art Content
Information and multimedia technologies that have been developed during the past couple of years provided new e-tools to memory institutions (viz. museum, libraries, galleries, etc.), reviving the valuable treasure made by generation of people. Digital libraries (DLs) are such powerful contemporary tools for cultural heritage presentation, preservation and archiving. However, DLs power will in-crease significantly if they use mechanisms for ubiquitous sharing of their e-artefacts and they distribute attractive content in the social networks, reflecting community demands and needs. This paper presents a service for automatic sharing of iconographical artefacts and full collections from the Bulgarian Iconographical Digital Library to selected Facebook communities. In this case the service will be used for widely promotion of knowledge about East-Christian Iconographical Art and Culture, but I could be used not only for this and not only in this domain
Digital Humanities: Challenges of the Transformation of Tools and Objects of Knowledge in Contemporary Humanities
This paper aims to sketch some bases for the problematization of
digital tools as objects of knowledge for Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH).
Our purpose is to raise some relevant questions about the Digital Humanities
(DH) and how SSH and Computer Sciences (CS) can work together to face new
challenges. We discuss some tension points and propose a model for SSH and
CS collaboration for joint projects in cultural digitization

This article presents some digital technologies to support learning in art and culture by introducing modern tools for better understanding, creative thinking, and learning-by-doing, and creativity. Emphasis is placed on learners' engagement with appropriate methods and tools in order to ensure a more active participation of the learner during the perception of knowledge.
Technology-enhanced Learning for Cultural Heritage
This paper demonstrates an approach for technology-enhanced learning, joining analysis, collaborative work, mobile learning (m-learning in short), discussion, and learning-by-authoring approaches in order to achieve more active participa-tion of the learners during the perceiving of knowledge and to stimulate their creative thinking. The learners visit famous churches, monasteries, museums, etc., where they can see samples of the Bulgarian Iconography supported by m-learning. They rely on the GUIDE@HAND platform containing personalized collections presenting location, historical data, pictures, etc. Multimedia and other information resources are delivered through the “Virtual Encyclopaedia of the East-Christian Art” digital library (BIDL) - a web-based environment for regis-tration, documentation, access and exploration of Bulgarian iconographical arte-facts. The main goal of the learners is to create their own learning material/project, analysing the available resources. The presented use case also involves collabora-tive work and discussion approaches in order to attract learners and support them in a more active participation in the learning process
“Encyclopaedia Slavica Sanctorum” Ten Years Later: Main Trends and Questions
The paper discusses users’ activities in the period 2011-2022, mostly types of searches, in an electronic encyclopaedia on saints. The e-product contains information in Bulgarian on orthodox church calendar and texts dedicated to saints as preserved in medieval Slavonic manuscripts and in popular Bulgarian culture (as represented in fieldwork interviews). The most frequently used options are “view object” and “view date”. Most often articles on popular saints amongst Bulgarians were read, such as St. Basil the Great, St. Kliment of Ohrid, St. George, and St. Petka of Tarnovo. Less often are searches by combined parameters and an increase of their frequency is observable in 2019-2021
